Planning your visit to rudge farm cottages
Here are a few notes to help you when packing and planning for your holiday at Rudge Farm Cottages.
Your holiday cottage has guest-controlled central heating, powered by a propane gas boiler.
Kitchen
Your cottage has an electric cooker, microwave and fridge with a small ice box. There is a large freezer in the Information Room shared by all our holiday cottages. There are dishwashers in Orchard, Carters and Shepherds holiday cottages only.
Rinse aid and dishwasher tabs are provided. We provide washing up liquid, brush and scouring pad, tea towels, oven gloves and bin liners. We do not provide kitchen roll, cling film etc. Kitchen utensils include a cafetiere coffee maker.
Bathroom
Pigsty and Stable Cottages have a large shower cubicle; the other holiday cottages have a bath with shower over. A baby bath is available on request. Orchard and Carters Cottages have an additional WC. We provide bath and hand towels, bathmat, toilet roll and cleaning materials.
Bedrooms
Beds are made up with duvets. Spare blankets are available. Please provide your own cot bedding if necessary and beach towels. We have cots available on request, and also have a couple of bed guards for those toddlers adjusting to using a single bed.
Sitting Room
All our cottages have a TV/DVD player and you will find a DVD library in the Information Room – we would kindly ask that you return any DVD’s to the library as soon as you have watched them for other guests to use. With the exception of Hayloft Cottage there is a ‘living flame’ gas or electric fire as a focal point to the room.
Laundry Facilities
There are washing machines and tumble dryers in the Laundry Room, shared by all the holiday cottages. Soap powder is provided.
BBQs
There is a Weber BBQ outside each holiday cottage for your use but you will need to bring your own charcoal. We kindly ask guests to please clean the BBQ after use.
Communications
Mobile phone reception is getting better all the time with several networks providing a signal (currently O2 & Vodafone signals are ok whereas EE and Three less so) however you may not get a strong signal inside your cottage.
There is a payphone in the Information Room (01308 482758). Incoming calls can be taken, but obviously only if there is someone in there to hear the phone ring. We can take urgent messages by phone (01308 482630).
Broadband in our part of rural Dorset is not exactly super fast at present (although we are expecting fibre optic broadband at some point) however we now have a free WiFi hot spot in the information room for use for all our guests. Our incoming broadband signal can’t at this stage support video streaming etc. but it can allow everyone to check emails, search on Google, and use facebook and other social media
Tennis Court
We have a selection of tennis rackets and balls for you to borrow if you do not have your own. There is no booking system – just on a first-come-first-served basis.
Fishing
You are welcome to fish on the lake, but please use barbless hooks and you will need to provide your own fishing equipment.
Food Shopping
There is a farm shop at Modbury Farm, approximately one mile away on the road to Burton Bradstock. The ever-increasing range includes milk, eggs, vegetables, frozen meat, ice cream, jams and chutneys, apple juice etc. The shop is open all the time, with a trust box for payment.
Just over two miles away in Burton Bradstock there is a village shop in the Post Office and a Texaco garage, which has an integrated Spar convenience store. Local supermarkets include Morrison’s, Co-op and Waitrose in Bridport (6 miles) and Tesco in Dorchester (12 miles).
The following supermarkets will deliver to Rudge Farm – Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. If you put the name of your holiday cottage in your booking, the drivers will deliver directly to you. Please ensure you book a delivery slot when you know you will be around to receive it
